Porcelain Veneers Philadelphia

The Ultimate Smile Makeover

Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to brighten, whiten, and reshape your smile. By placing a layer of custom-crafted ceramic over a tooth’s surface, Dr. Richard S. Tobey, Jr. can completely alter the appearance of worn tooth enamel, uneven alignment and spacing, and minor chips or cracks. The dazzling appearance achieved by dental veneers is the ultimate smile makeover.

Placing Porcelain Veneers

Step One

Porcelain Veneers PhiladelphiaAfter you’ve decided to beautify your smile with porcelain veneers, Dr. Tobey will use his expertise to choose the size, shape, and type of veneers best suited to your case. These factors will depend upon your unique facial features, such as your bone structure and smile, and your ultimate aesthetic goals.

Step Two

Once your porcelain veneers have been chosen, Dr. Tobey will carefully remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth (or teeth) being treated in order to accommodate your veneers. If, however, you are being fitted with Lumineers, the removal of tooth enamel will not be necessary. Typically, porcelain veneers are half a millimeter thick, comparable to the width of a fingernail.  While your permanent veneers are being delicately custom-crafted to complement the size, texture, and color of your existing teeth, you may be fitted with a set of temporary veneers. These temporary versions will protect your teeth, give you an idea of what your permanent veneers will look like, and provide you with an excellent opportunity to advice Dr. Tobey of any aesthetic changes you would like to see made.

Step Three

When it’s time to place your permanent veneers, you will be administered a light anesthetic before Dr. Tobey removes the temporary veneers. Your permanent porcelain veneers will then be bonded to your teeth with dental cement, an adhesive that is hardened by exposure to a special light. The color of your veneers will be adjusted to achieve a dazzling yet natural appearance that fits seamlessly into your existing smile. The process will then be complete, and you will be free to enjoy the results of your beautiful smile makeover! And, because the porcelain used in your veneers is harder than enamel, your results will last for many years.

Types of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain mimics natural tooth structure more closely than any other restorative material on the market today. Like natural enamel, porcelain is translucent, meaning that it allows some light to pass through its surface rather than simply reflecting it, giving patients a more natural finish than ever before.

Our practice offers two of the most advanced brands of porcelain veneers currently available:

  • Lumineers are ultra thin and, unlike traditional porcelain veneers, reshape and brighten your smile without requiring the removal of sensitive tooth structure.  Also, Lumineers are reversible, allowing for future removal if necessary or desired.
  • da Vinci Veneers are excellent options for patients with dental discoloration, alignment problems, and gaps. These dental veneers are known for their durability and stain-resistance over a period of many years.
